Turns out, this place is a Mecca for craft beer lovers and by 5 p.m., the place was packed, so much for our quiet little meeting. It was incredibly busy, especially for a Tuesday afternoon. To my surprise, Harpoon is a big time brewery, with a German-style beer hall attached to the production area. I envisioned showing up in the middle of the afternoon to a quiet brewpub and enjoying a couple beers while we talked to the management about our plans for the following day. You have to use the term “micro-brewery” loosely when describing Harpoon. Together these two locations can produce 200,000 barrels of beer per year. Harpoon has two locations, one in Boston located right on the harbor in what’s known as the Seaport District, and the second in Windsor, Vt. They do distribute as far west as Texas, but for some reason they don’t do much in the midwest. I had never been to Harpoon before and really don’t remember ever having one of their beers, turns out their beer is not distributed in Michigan. This almost seemed too good to be true, spend a portion of two days in a brewery as part of my job.
