It is only available on a nitro pour which might explain the rich creamy texture, two thumbs up to this one! Next up was another suggestion from Dan, the “Ghost King.” This is an Imperial White IPA that comes in at a whopping ABV of 9.3 percent and an IBU of 61. … This is a traditional dry Irish stout with a nice creamy head. The first beer I tried was their “Boston Irish Stout,” I figured why not, when in Rome.
As badly as I wanted to jump into their beer with both feet, I had to be careful, I was technically still working. This might explain why everyone we talked to was helpful and had a great attitude! Like I already mentioned, Dan was a great host, he set us up with a nice variety of beers and the house specialty – fresh baked pretzels. They have been brewing beer at the Boston location since 1986 and in 2014 they became an employee-owned company. Dan not only made sure our conference came off without a hitch, but he took the time to take us on a tour of the facility and gave us a ton of good info regarding the brewery’s history. We met with Dan McGuire, the general manager, he was not only a great host but he’s also an all around stand up guy.
Turns out, this place is a Mecca for craft beer lovers and by 5 p.m., the place was packed, so much for our quiet little meeting. It was incredibly busy, especially for a Tuesday afternoon. To my surprise, Harpoon is a big time brewery, with a German-style beer hall attached to the production area. I envisioned showing up in the middle of the afternoon to a quiet brewpub and enjoying a couple beers while we talked to the management about our plans for the following day. We had some preparation work to do on Tuesday, the day before our main event. The brewery in Boston has a canning line and the facility in Vermont takes care of the bottling. You have to use the term “micro-brewery” loosely when describing Harpoon. Together these two locations can produce 200,000 barrels of beer per year. Harpoon has two locations, one in Boston located right on the harbor in what’s known as the Seaport District, and the second in Windsor, Vt. They do distribute as far west as Texas, but for some reason they don’t do much in the midwest. I had never been to Harpoon before and really don’t remember ever having one of their beers, turns out their beer is not distributed in Michigan. This almost seemed too good to be true, spend a portion of two days in a brewery as part of my job.

A couple months ago one of the software companies I work with at my day-job invited me to an event in Boston, and get this, it was being held at the Harpoon Brewery.
